Testing .45 ACP pistols for accuracy

I decided to take out a few .45’s and hit the range to see which one of the group the best.  Were they even going to be close?  How far out could I go with each and still be combat effective?

I took these Three with me.  Glock 21 Gen 3 with no mods, Kimber Desert Warrior with aftermarket threaded barrel, and an FNX 45 stock with threaded barrel.

I shot these groups two handed, with a pole for stabilization.

The Glock 21 printed below as seen.

This is at 25 yards.  3 rounds

Overall, all three proved to be combat effective from the box with stock ball ammo.

I was with John Paul and the JP Enterprise crew at Shot Show.  We have had a wonderful and productive relationship for years now.  I chose to go with JP years ago because of their commitment to quality, innovation, and ethics.

Here JP, his engineer and I discuss my new ideas for 2016 AR-15 products to add to the line.  Can’t tell you what they are yet, but they are in the works and revolutionary!

Also in this picture, you will see the not yet released Adder System CCW pants coming out this summer.  Adder System line is found HERE.

Can you brag about your pistol shooting?

The 30-10 pistol training program.IMG_9898

This week during a qualification and tactical shoot, I had the opportunity to see just about every bad pistol shooting posture/habbit/training scar a shooter could have.  Every one of these shooters are 10+ years veteran shooters.  Not new students.

Training scars and bad habbits have been built and reinforced for years.  The ONLY way to break these bad habits is training!  Proper training.  Consistent training, as shooting is a parishable skill.

A solid foundation of the fundamentals is KEY!  This cannot be overstated.  You can never shoot at the level you desire without proper fundamental basics.  Get back to the basics.  Dry fire is the basics.  This program allows you to practice at home, or wherever you are in just minutes a day.  This WILL get you shooting pistol worthy of bragging at the range.  Only 10 min a day, and no ammo.

Most will not complete this training, as it is not “sexy”.  They will spend their money on ammo and guns, and range fees, and parts, but will not spend $47 on proper training.  And they will never shoot the way they want to.

This program will not only get you shooting, but will also keep you current, and proficient with your speed and accuracy.

This is not my program, I am not selling it.  I recommmend this training product because it works.  Period.

The link to purchase it and start shooting better today is HERE

This is how the Tier 1 Military Operators learned how, and this is how they keep their skill sets up.  Don’t think that there is a shortcut, or a sexier way to get it down, if there was, they would be doing it.  If shooting live ammo at the range would get you there, they would do that, as they have a MUCH larger budget than you do.

Want to shoot like they do, then do what they do.  And they do this!  Or you can look like and shoot like the pictures here taken this week at a Gov shooting range.

SDC Surviving Deadly Contact course

Kelly-Alwood-LOGO14This was the latest course, last week Oct 2014 in St. George Utah with OnPoint Tactical.

Course: Surviving Deadly Contact

This class will be hands on training, force on force with paintballs, and live fire with pistol and carbine. Students will learn learn the rules of combat, shoot and move. Every game has rules and those who do not know the rules will definitely lose.

  • What is the most dangerous place in a room?
  • What is the order you engage your targets?
  • What are the levels of cover?
  • How do you handle multiple opponents?

If you don’t know the rules, you can’t win..(other than pure luck)…
This class focuses on real life threat scenarios: a shooting or robbery in Walmart, attempted carjacking, scuffle at the restaurant, muggings in the mall parking lot, home invasion.

Handgun penetration tests on cars

I did this test at a police range in Indiana.  We got a car, opened the doors, and shot through them.  On this test we used the FN 5.7×28 and the Glock 35 .40 calibers.

The first pictures here are of the 5.7 round.  The round was the American Eagle fmj.

car door shot Kelly Alwood IMG_4110

In both cases, and multiple angles shot, the rounds deflected slightly upwards.  The impact on the second door was higher than were the round struck the first door, even firing at a downward angle.  There is approximately a two foot gap between the doors.

These are the results for the .40 cal

This is the .40 cal shot through the trunk and went through the back seat, into the dash.  All the .40  rounds used were Gold Dot HP.

This last picture is the windshield.  We fired at a target in the drivers seat, and 12 feet in front of the front bumper, all through the back window.  All rounds went through the back window and the front windshield.  The rear window did not deflect rounds enough to miss the man size target in the drivers seat.  The windshield did not deflect the rounds enough to miss the human target 12 feet in front of the bumper.
